viewforum and viewtopic permissons problem

Postby sundaydriver » 23 Mar 2009, 03:44

im having something weird going on with my forums. I have changed the Guest's permissions to only see public forums, which works on the board index. However the jumpbox allows the guest to go to other forums they shouldnt and if they get the forum id correct in the url they can view forums they shouldnt be allowed to see also.

Then there are some forums that it DOES say that the user must login to view... as far as i can tell i have the permissions the same on both (all never). My first assumption was that it must be cache or something since i did the one that works a few days ago and the ones that dont work today, but i have cleared and refreshed everything i know how.

any help with this one guys?

Go to ACP > Forums and edit one of those forums that guests can see.

Then copy the permissions from one of the forums that guests can't see.

oh boy, i was afraid somebody would ask that... i can't imagine going back and having to undo all those mods. I have quite a few, here goes the list.

activity stats
topic solved
global announcements (im going to start with this one, it seems weird)
inactive user reminder emails
color unread links
mini quick reply
color bg for admin posts
xfire mod
drag and drop forums
HTML in ranks

any idea where the jumpbox is created? I would like to see that query and see why it works for some forums but not others

well i found it!!! i stumbled upon this code while looking in functions_content.php trying to figure out how the jumpbox was created.

Code: Select all
(right before the jumpbox is built)
// Sometimes it could happen that forums will be displayed here not be displayed within the index page
// This is the result of forums not displayed at index, having list permissions and a parent of a forum with no permissions.
// If this happens, the padding could be "broken"

Instead of selecting "All Never" for EVERY SINGLE FORUM i have, i tried to do the less tedious thing and just select the parent forum to apply the permissions.... bummer that i have to do it all everytime, but atleast now i know! Hope that helps anybody with the same problem.

Thank you for providing us with the example code, and a brief explanation of the problem. However, we do not fully understand the problem you are experiencing
That's pretty nice^^
